Salmon Fishing Charter

Foghorn — Salmon Page Intro — Preview Only
Victoria's Salmon Headquarters

Twenty years chasing five kinds of salmon.

We've fished for salmon out of Victoria and Sooke for over two decades. This stretch of coastline, at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, sees five varieties come through — Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pink and Chum — and thanks to the mild climate, there's a reason to be on the water almost any time of year.

Trips run as a 5-hour half day or a full 8-hour day, and if the timing's right, we'll often swing past a pod of orca or humpback on the way out or back in. Every trip takes up to 4 people aboard our 25' Wellcraft.

Five Kinds, One Coastline

What's Running

The Big One

Chinook

Also called King or Spring salmon — the largest of the five, with fish pushing 50 lbs not out of the question.

The Fighter

Coho

Known as Silver salmon for good reason — smaller than a Chinook but a genuinely acrobatic fight on light tackle.

Table Favourite

Sockeye

Prized for deep red flesh and rich flavour — one of the best-eating salmon that swims these waters.

The Abundant

Pink

The smallest and most numerous, running heaviest in odd-numbered years — a reliable option when they're in.

Late Season

Chum

Also called Dog salmon — typically the last run of the year, and a solid, hard-pulling fish in its own right.
